Health & Wellness

This week’s theme is relationships.  Relationships during adolescence change quite dramatically.  Relationships with parents become more complex because adolescents are not children anymore and are also not adults.  Roles become more adult-like with a greater emphasis on responsibility and initiative.  Friendships also change during adolescence with shifts in terms of emotional intimacy (sharing secrets) and a greater number and variety of friends.  Adolescence is also the time when people begin to explore romantic/dating relationships.  A great article examining the variety of relationships during adolescence and how to foster healthy relationships can be found at this website.  https://opa.hhs.gov/adolescent-health/healthy-relationships-adolescence#Friendships
