  • Pick UP & Drop-Off- There is a backup on the road happening during dismissal in the street causing an unsafe environment. Please help resolve this by doing these two things: Right turn only, drive east towards the mountains leaving the gates. No left turns out of the school. Pull all the way forward in the loops. Do not wait in the street to pull into the bus loop.  Some parents are waiting to enter the bus loop and cutting off traffic that does not pull forward. This is unsafe. Do not do this. The bus loop is little. If the bus loop is full pass it and pull into the far west gate. In the west lot, you can pull into a parking space or drive up near the portable and choir building to make a much larger loop. Please be patient and courteous with other drivers. Remember we also have student drivers exiting the parking lot too.

Health News

  • The office has free covid tests for you. If you would like one please stop by the front office.
  • If you are feeling sick when you are at school, tell your teacher and come up to the office with a pass. Parents may not pick you up if you have not first checked in at the office. We will check your temperature and ask you about your symptoms.  This is especially important to rule out COVID.  Don’t be afraid to come into the office, don’t hesitate. We are glad to help you.  Together we will call your parents if you need to be picked up.
  • Alongside provides every student the 24/7, tier 1 mental health support. The app is designed for middle and high school students, and the company works exclusively with schools. Students access  Alongside with their school-issued email address via any browser (app.alongside.care),  the iOS app, or the Android app; I’m excited to see its impact on our students and I think you’ll find it as compelling as I have.

    • If you have any concerns and don’t want your student accessing Alongside, please email privacy@alongside.care and include your student’s name and school email address (ex. John Doe johndoe@school.k12.us).

Health & Wellness

This week we continue our focus on the core Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Components.

Why is SEL important? Social Emotional Learning skills are also sometimes referred to as “Life Skills” and research has shown that teaching students Life Skills or SEL can increase academic successbuild skills for career readiness and workplace successsupport youth mental health and wellness, and reduce bullying behavior.

Student will continue getting to know their teachers and their peers. Many of these activities help to develop Self-Awareness, a core SEL competency.

In the first few weeks of school, students will be working with their teachers and peers to establish group norms and shared agreements in their classrooms, and learning the schoolwide behavioral expectations.  Teachers will be talking to students about self-management skills, such as time management and organization, personal and collective goal setting, and stress management. Self-Management is the ability to manage one’s emotions, thoughts, and behaviors effectively in different situations and to achieve goals and aspirations.

This week students will receive dedicated time to learn and practice these skills during Health and Wellness workshops delivered by our school counselor and will learn about a digital tool PAPA provides for all students to support self-regulation. Attached to this email are some links where you can learn more about SEL and the importance of teaching life skills, and ways that you can support SEL at home.
