Health & Wellness

PAPA’s social-emotional learning workshops started last week. Students expanded their emotional vocabulary, learned to recognize non-verbal cues that help them understand their own and others’ emotions, and learned multiple techniques to help them center and calm themselves.

Each of us has made decisions we are not proud of. Learning to pause and think prior to making a decision is helps us avoid making decisions we regret. The steps to responsible decision making include: 1. Identify the problem. 2. Analyze the situation. 3. Brainstorm solutions and consequences of each solution (be sure to consider ethical responsibility). 4. Make the decision. 5. Evaluate and reflect upon the outcome of the decision. Parents/guardians can help their children through these steps as they navigate their teen age years.

The five competencies are: Self Awareness, Self Management, Responsible Decision Making, Relationship Skills, and Social Awareness.
