PAPA community we need your help to keep our school in the best shape possible. Someone has kicked open the door in the choir room and it is in need of repair. Someone has kicked open the hallway door outside of Mr. Doug’s room and Mr. Baca’s room. This has caused damage to the door and puts the security of our school at risk. We need everyone to use their hands to open doors. Please help each other and let others know not to kick open doors. Thank you PAPA people!

Inclement Weather at PAPA: PAPA follows its own policies and procedures with regard to delays and closings. If APS delays or has asynchronous snow days DISTRICT WIDE, PAPA will cancel school for the day. If APS delays or cancels East Mountain schools only, PAPA will be in session. Residents of the East Mountains can make informed decisions for their own safety to come to school on time or delayed. Parents/Guardians must report absences to the attendance phone line or email attendance@paparts.org Local radio & television stations post APS delays and school closings.

Halloween is tomorrow and the end of our spirit week! Come dressed in your Halloween costume.

The first-ever Honor Concert is on October 31st. Arts teachers are selecting 1 act to represent and share their art form with the school. On Halloween, we will have a modified schedule where you will report to shorter classes and a study hall. During study hall grade levels will be called to the choir room to share the arts. We are a performing arts school, we support performing artists and this is one way to see and appreciate the artistic endeavors at our school.

We thank you and your family for being our valued partners as we work together to educate the students at PAPA. As you may already be aware, building our social-emotional learning skills is an important goal for our school this year. Over the next several weeks, students and teachers will participate in several exercises to better understand these concepts and to reflect on how they perceive these skills in themselves. We will be asking for your child to reflect on their own mindsets and approaches to learning via an online survey they will be completing [at school/at home]. The survey shouldn’t take more than 20-30 minutes to complete. The survey content will ask students to self-reflect on SURVEY TOPICS. We are asking that all of our students participate in the surveys, as their responses will provide invaluable insights into their experiences and how we can improve and adapt our district to their needs. If a student doesn’t feel like they have enough information to answer a question, they will be able to skip the item altogether. The responses to these surveys will be completely confidential. We are partnering with a third-party vendor to support us in administering these surveys. If you have any questions about the SEL survey, please don’t hesitate to contact us. Please notify us if you would like your child to opt out of taking the surveys by email at info@paparts.org or with a letter to the front office by November 3rd.

The weather is getting cooler outside! Please dress in layers. We will continue to eat lunch outside unless it is below 32 degrees. This is a great time to walk around, get fresh air, meet new people, and get a little vitamin D.

Health & Wellness

October is National Cyber-security Safety Month.  The National Cybersecurity Alliance has a great website full of information and resources.  Visit https://staysafeonline.org/ and check it out.  When gaming, the Alliance has 10 suggestions to make gaming safer for you and your family.

  1.  Use a unique, strong password with at least 12 characters and contains numbers, letters and special characters.
  2.  Research new games to make sure it is legitimate before downloading.  Be sure to look at reviews.
  3.  If a multi-factor authentication is offered, use it.  This adds another layer of security.
  4.  Set up automatic updates for the hardware and software.
  5.  Cyber-criminals use phishing to get you to download bad links or malicious files.  They make offers too good to be true.  They offer a hack or cheat.  Be aware.  Hover the cursor over the link to see the link’s true destination.
  6.  When buying, use a credit card.  Cards have more consumer protections.
  7.  Be wise about how much and what type of information you share on gaming profiles.  Cyber-criminals are good at using information to steal identities.
  8. Use an avatar (not your actual photo) and a safe game name (not your own first or last name) when gaming.  I
  9.  If someone is being inappropriate, rude, or a bully, block them.  You do not have to play with someone who makes you feel bad.
  10. If you get a new console, check the security settings.  Many games use the least restrictive settings.  You can always make them more secure.

Have fun gaming safely!
