Every February, people in the United States celebrate the achievements and history of African Americans as part of Black History Month.

The Chinese New Year has been celebrated in China for over 3500 years. The Spring Festival was originally a ceremonial day to pray to the gods for a good planting and harvest. People also pray to their ancestors. During the celebrations, ancestors are honored and traditional ceremonies are held. People get together and welcome the new year with customs that shall bring good luck, good fortune, wealth, prosperity, and happiness.  Welcome to 2024: the Year of the Dragon. The Dragon is considered the luckiest zodiac sign in Chinese culture. Chinese New Year starts on February 10th and ends February 24th.

PAPA is lucky to have three individuals on campus that work to help the success of all students: our Social Worker, Leslye Padilla, Academic Counselor Lynnette Walker, and School Counselor, Melanie Chavez. These individuals always have the best interest of students at heart and share resources and tools with our school team. Thank you and shout out to our school support team and appreciation always.

The next Honor Concert is taking place on Valentine’s Day, 2/14. We love our school and we love performances. This is a great time to practice audience etiquette and give the arts department an opportunity to highlight their artistry.  Students selected to participate are given the honor to represent their department and showcase and we are here for it! We will have a modified bell schedule with a study hall in the afternoon. Audience members will be called to the choir room for the performance in the afternoon.

PJHS is happy to announce that our sunset event has been rescheduled for February 15, 2024. Come celebrate Palentine’s day with a friend as you enjoy food, drinks and a hot air balloon.  Check the flyers for more details.

Hey Guys, Gals, and Enby Pals! High School GSA is proud to announce that on Monday, February 5th, we are starting PIN SALES back up during both lunches! Keep an eye out for some Limited Edition pins that will be sold only this time and this time only!

As the weather gets warmer, our long time friends finally wake up, the papa roaches. But I bet you’d rather have a bug that doesn’t infest, and instead is invested in you! Why don’t you get yourself a love bug instead! They will love you, and not your sugary drinks. Thespian Troupe 6667 is going to be selling love bugs at middle and high-school lunches from February 7th to the 14th for 2 dollars each, or our very limited edition love bugs that glow in the darkest times for 4 dollars each, along with ring pops for one dollar. Catch them before they’re gone!

Health & Wellness

February’s SEL focus is about healthy relationships.  Below is an image that compares healthy and unhealthy relationships.  These characteristics (good and bad) can be found in friendships, friend groups and in intimate relationships.  Encourage your child to pay attention to “red flags” and move away from relationships that are hurtful and unhealthy.
