General Info

Possession or distribution of tobacco products, e-cigarettes, nicotine liquid containers, alcohol, mood-altering substances, and illicit drugs in school buildings, school premises, and away from school grounds at school-sponsored activities is prohibited for all. This includes students, staff, and families.

Student Drop-off & Pick-up Safety Reminders

• Be patient during drop-off and pick-up.

• Have your child ready with belongings before stopping in the loading/unloading zone.

• If your child needs extra time, please park on the street or in a parking spot.

• Do not block crosswalks, entrances, or exits.

• Refrain from honking, yelling, or using inappropriate language.

• If you’re running late, do not speed—safety comes first.

• We’ve had a few close calls; please help us keep all students and families safe.

PTSO News

We had a great first meeting on August 28th for this new school year. We finalized the PTSO Board for the 2025-26 school year and would like to congratulate and introduce the following officers:

We look forward to a productive year of activities, raising money, and supporting the PAPA teachers, staff, and students!

Student Council

Student Council is sponsoring a Toy drive in support of the Ronald McDonald House of New Mexico. They support families with sick or injured children with a safe, comfortable place to stay while their child is in the hospital. Families can stay close to their child without worrying about where to sleep or how to pay for it. They get meals, a quiet place to rest, and support during a really hard time.  Your kindness can bring comfort and joy when they need it most. Please bring new toys to your first-period classroom. The toy drive has started and ends on September 26th. The class that brings the most toys will get a prize from the Student Council. Let’s work together to help these kids and their families.

Early Release

September 24th is an early release day. On these days, teachers meet in professional learning communities for important collaboration. School is dismissed at 2:17 on these days. If you cannot get picked up at 2:17, you are required to head into the cafe for an NHS-sponsored study hall. Study hall dismissal is at 3:18, the regular dismissal time.

Family Night

Family Night is this Friday at 6:30 PM! Join us for a fun evening with your loved ones and kick off spooky season in style. Tickets are just $5, which includes a delicious popcorn and a drink. Additional snacks and candy will be available for purchase throughout the night. We’ll be screening the classic movie The Nightmare Before Christmas, so come ready for some spooky fun! It’s the perfect way to start the weekend with family and friends. We look forward to seeing you there!

High School Students

High School students, there is a College Fair at the Albuquerque Convention Center on September 28th.  Over 80 colleges are expected to be there.  Register with the QR codes that are posted on Mr. Ocken’s or Mrs. Walker’s door.  Your parents are welcome to attend too.  It is a great place to get all your questions answered by college representatives.

Read Write Extension – Student Access

Yes, students can add the Read&Write extension to their personal Chromebooks or Apple laptops. Here are the steps:

Open Chrome and sign in using their school email.

Once logged into their school Google account, check the extension bar.

If Read&Write is not visible, click the Puzzle Piece and pin the extension.

If it is still not there, go to the Chrome Web Store.

Download the extension and add it to the extension bar.

Pin the extension.

Once pinned, students can open a website or document.

Click on Read&Write. (Students may need to sign in again with their school Google account.)

Save the date!

All 10th graders will be taking the PSAT on October 8th in the cafe. Students, be sure to get to school by 7:45, get a good night’s rest, and eat breakfast to prepare for your state-required test. Selected Juniors will also be participating in the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying exam.

Language Club begins this week!

It will be held on the final Friday of each month during B lunch in Room 5-Miss Eiland’s room. Students are invited to play games, sing songs, have discussions, and more! Students enrolled in Spanish receive extra credit for attending.

5•7•10 RULE 

● Five unexcused absences: When a child has accumulated five unexcused absences, school personnel will arrange a meeting at the school with the parent or legal guardian to discuss the unexcused absences. A plan to improve attendance will be developed and implemented.

● Seven unexcused absences: When a child has accumulated seven unexcused absences, school personnel will arrange a second meeting at the school with the parent or legal guardian to review the attendance plan and discuss the impact of truancy on the future of the child. At this time, the child may enter into an attendance contract requiring him or her to attend school regularly, or other consequences may be applied (i.e., removal from PAPA to attend the child’s home school in the case of transportation issues).

● Ten unexcused absences: If a student has accumulated an equivalent of ten or more unexcused absences within a school year, the parent shall be given written notice by personal service or certified mail that the student is habitually truant and is not in compliance with the Compulsory Attendance School Law. At that time, the student shall be reported to the probation services office of the judicial district where the student resides for an investigation as to whether the student shall be considered to be a neglected child or a child in a family in need of services because of habitual truancy.
