Waking up this morning, I smile. Twenty-four brand new hours are before me. I vow to live fully in each moment and to look at all beings with eyes of compassion.
Thank you parents for completing the 2019-2020 Quality of Education & Family Engagement Survey that went home 2nd period on Monday. Please fill this out and have your student return it to their 2nd period teacher. Classes that have 100% participation will be awarded a prize! We value your feedback and thank you for your time in doing so. All surveys are due back to school Monday March 23rd.
Please congratulate PAPA junior Maysie Kilgore for taking second place at the Poetry Out Loud State competition yesterday in Santa Fe! Way to go, Maysie!
We would like to invite teens and adults to learn from out guest speaker Rebecca Ezechukwu, a Ph.D Licensed Psychologist and Assistant Professor Dept. of Psychiatry. She is a guest of the SAC/SHAC team on March 12th at 3:30 in room 2. She will be holding a presentation on stress, healthy stress, atypical behavior and how to help our teenagers.
Prom tickets on sale starting today at lunch in Ms Layton’s room. FRESHMAN you are only allowed to attended if you are invited by an upper classmen. This week tickets for $30 solo or $45 a couple. These prices WILL INCREASE so purchase this week at lunch.
PAPA will have an opening on the Governing Council in June. The term varies depending on open position (1-3 years). The commitment is 5+ hours per month. Duties include monthly meetings and service on multiple committees (ie. Policy, Long-Range Planning, Performing Arts, Audit, Finance). If you are interested in serving or know of a candidate, the next step is to submit a letter of interest and resume to the Nominating Committee Chairperson, Tamara Lopez (email@example.com).
Dance students, you received your course registration forms last Thursday. Please review with parents and get arts teachers’ initials if you are wanting to advance in your arts classes. Monday would be the better day to get dance teachers’ initials. It is important that you bring back your course registration forms on Tuesday, March 10th, to register for classes. Dance students you will not attend regularly scheduled classes 1st through 3rd periods on Tuesday, so please check the cafe doors for your 1st period room assignments.
Eighth grade students and parents, you are invited to attend a Transition to High School meeting for the Freshman year. Our goal is to make your child’s transition to high school successful. During the meeting, we will:
- approve your child’s course registration and Next Step Plan,
- review important information for transition to high school,
- discuss high school credits, assessment and graduation requirements, and
- discuss opportunities for community involvement in high school.
The meetings will be held tomorrow – Tuesday, March 10th, at 3:30 OR 5:00 pm in the Cafe. You and your child only need to attend one session. Sessions last about an hour.
JUNIORS AND SENIORS! It’s almost time to crown our new royals! If you are interested in running for prom court, please pick up an application at the front office next to the call board and turn it in by the end of the day Thursday, March 12th to the HSSC box in the front office. In addition, you must attend a MANDATORY meeting during lunch on Wednesday March 11th in Ms. Layton’s room for special information the flyer doesn’t tell you. We can’t wait to crown you!
Auditions for advanced guitar “CADENZA” are being held all this week. Please see Mr. Morales for audition material and sign up for a time slot on the sign up sheet outside the guitar room.
Attention PAPA community,
It is time to submit nomination forms for the Dayana DIaz Community Service Award. Forms are available in the front office and on-line. The deadline for nominations is March 31st. Dayana became a student at PAPA when she started 6th grade. She took classes in a number of performing arts, but her main focus was Dance. Dayana’s positive personality and dedication to community was admirable. Her smile and optimism was contagious. Dayana passed away her senior year at PAPA. May her spirit live on as we honor students through this community service award. Link to nomination form:

Purchase your 2020 Spring Dance DVD
Please return the form to Ms. Hudson in the Film Studio with your payment by 3.13.2020. We only burn as many DVD’s as we sell. After the 13th, you will not be able to purchase them. You CAN pay with a credit card over the phone to Jackie Danfelser (505) 830-3150, our Business Manager. Make sure to give us your name, your dancer’s name, and a good contact phone number.
PAPA’s Thespian Troupe is performing Tracks by Peter Tarsi on March 12th, 13th, and 14th at 7pm, with an additional matinee performance on the 14th at 2pm. Funny. Bold. Thought provoking. See what happens when a group of strangers are forced to face their own mortality, and wrestle with the age old question: What happens after we die? The performances will take place in the PAPA Cafe. Tickets are $5. Don’t miss it!
