Letter from the Executive Director dated 9/4/2020
September 4, 2020
Dear PAPA Families,
Happy Labor Day! There is no school on Monday!! I hope all is well and everyone in your family is healthy! The school year is off to a great start and we (students and staff) are finally getting into the routines of school. Staff met virtually this past Wednesday for a lengthy meeting to refine many processes. You will continue to see alignment of organizational structures get better and better each week. Regular virtual attendance and participation is much improved across all grades. This means that students are learning and following through with many processes and staff are modifying and re-teaching as needed. We are half-way through the first quarter (wow!). For the most part, grades are good and PAPA students are learning! Progress reports will be mailed home Tuesday but you have access to student grades through PowerSchool 24/7. We will be having small numbers of students who are failing multiple classes or who are not engaging in school come to PAPA to work and catch up missing assignments. We will notify parents in the upcoming weeks if they need to come in. Of course, we will follow COVID safety protocols.
We have made some changes to help streamline Google Classroom assignments. Each week teachers will post a list of activities due by day. Zoom links will also be posted in that week’s list. All students are expected to sign in to the computer with their .net accounts. Teachers have been instructed on best practices to refine zoom meetings and report inappropriate behavior to administration, Zoom, and police if necessary. We know that our process and links are secure but that some middle school students have been sharing the log in with their peers on snapchat, tik tok, and Instagram. Please call the office when your child has difficulty finding assignments, zoom links or needs support. Please see attachments from PED below.
Finally, parents and staff have been asking about re-entry. In the next week you will be receiving a link to a survey through google form. Please complete the family survey to give us information about your thoughts regarding re-entry tentative start day October 12, 2020. We appreciate your feedback!
