A message from PAPA: LOTS of important links today!

Welcome back from Spring Break!

The next couple weeks will fly by quickly. Please encourage your child(ren) to attend EVERY DAY, complete and turn in ALL ASSIGNMENTS on time. Our mantra this spring is, no missing work. There are many events happening this spring and we are excited to share them with our community. Senior Showcase
Senior showcase is a collaborative opportunitiy for seniors to highlight art forms they have developed throughout their time at PAPA. It is also a requirement to participate in Senior Showcase to be elligible to walk in the graduation ceremony. We encourage all underclassmen to see the show at least once before they are seniors. Come support the class of 2023 and see what is in store for your child their senior year.

Spring Dance Concert
Spring Dance Concert 2023 will be in the beautiful POPEJOY HALL on UNM Campus on April 5, 2023 at 7:00pm. All students taking a dance class will be featured in this show and will share same stage as world-renowned performers! Attention all dancers! ALL dancers taking at least one dance class will be receiving paperwork about Spring Dance Concert today or tomorrow from your dance teacher. Tickets for the show are on sale. Costume payments need to be taken care of by the end of this month. Questions? Check with a dance teacher.

Dayana Diaz Community Service Award Nomination In addition to serving as a student ambassador in at least one PAPA event during the school year, the recipient of this award must be a student in good academic and behavioral standing (academic standing based on New Mexico Activity Association guidelines and behavioral standing with no discipline referrals during the current year). It will be presented to a student or students who consistently demonstrate qualities of compassion for school peers and members of the greater community. The recipient(s) must have provided unpaid service during the current school year for at least (2) two organizations not affiliated with the school. Community service is not limited to performing arts, although it is highly encouraged. Award recipient(s) must also attend at least one community-based workshop, conference or event promoting social justice, diversity, safety, non-violence, or healthy habits. Staff, students, or community members can nominate students for this award. A nomination form is available in the office. A committee assigned by administration will determine the award recipients. PAPA Upperclassmen! There is an exciting opportunity with the City of Albuquerque to work in the arts this summer! The City of Albuquerque’s Department of Arts & Culture is recruiting the next class of its Mayor’s Creative Youth Corps, an engaging PAID summer program that provides professional experience to Albuquerque youth and builds new pathways into the city’s creative economy. Interested high school students entering their junior or senior year as well as recent graduates interested in exploring a career in arts, culture and creative non-profit organizations have the opportunity to apply here. The Jewish Community Center of Greater Albuquerque (JCC) is seeking poetry and artwork that illustrates “The Earth is Our Home,” in celebration of Earth Day. The Earth is Our Home contest is designed to raise awareness of New Mexican and global responses to the environmental challenges that everyone faces, such as climate change and loss of biodiversity. Cash prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place entries for elementary school, middle school, high school and adults. A total of $6,000 will be awarded, and the contest is open to people in Bernalillo, Sandoval and Valencia counties. Winners will be announced at an event at 3 pm on Sunday, April 16, 2023, at the JCC, 5520 Wyoming Blvd. NE Entries are due on April 3 and can be submitted online at NMearthexpo.com or dropped off during regular business hours at the JCC. Participants are invited to express their thoughts, knowledge, concerns, feelings, or answers in either an original poem or a piece of original artwork. All artwork must be either drawn or painted. Any flat surface medium is acceptable (e.g., paper, posterboard, canvas, wood). Art may use pencil, ink, crayon, paint, mixed media, collage, etc.). The maximum size of an art piece is 24 inches by 36 inches.
