Student Leader Network Launched – Application Deadline 12/19/17

We are excited to announce a new New Mexico Public Education Department (PED) initiative, the Student Leader Network (SLN). The SLN 2018 Application has been posted on the PED website at http://www.ped.state.nm.us/ped/rfps.html.

 

The purpose of the Student Leader Network is to cultivate a group of engaged students to act as vehicles for change in their schools and communities. Through PED provided webinars and in-person sessions, students will bring valuable ideas and insights to the PED, while learning about education policy and reform in New Mexico. The Student Leader Network will advance the exchange of ideas and improve the quality of education in New Mexico’s schools. The Student Leader term of service is January 15, 2018 – December 14, 2018.

 

Student Leaders will:

  • Learn about education policy in New Mexico
  • Receive leadership development training
  • Learn how to engage in education policy in New Mexico
  • Network with other Student Leaders and Teacher Leaders from around New Mexico

 

The PED’s Policy, Innovation, & Measurement Division is extending this opportunity to all students in grades 9, 10, and 11 interested in participating in this program. Please review the attached document, timeline, and offered support for more details.

Governing Board Training Opportunities

  • 2018 Student Leader Network Application Packet: This is the program application to be completed by students. The application packet includes:

o   Program information and requirements

o   Applicant Information cover page

o   Student Leader Network Application

o   Student Leader Network Recommendation Form

o   Consent and release forms to be signed by the applicant, a legal parent/guardian, school staff sponsor, and school principal, available in English and Spanish
