PAPA Participates in NIH Study
PAPA has been selected to participate in The National Institute of Health’s study to reduce LGBTQ+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, Plus) adolescent suicide.
You may not know that suicide is the third leading cause of death for youth ages 12-18 in the U.S. A key preventable suicide risk factor is not feeling safe at school. LGBTQ+ youth are four times more likely to attempt suicide as their straight peers. When we make schools safer for LGBTQ+ youth, we make schools safe for all students.
This is a 5 year study funded by The Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health & Human Development. PAPA has organized a team of teachers and an administrator to implement strategies that have been identified as evidence-based to make schools safer for students. You can look forward to training, events and outreach to support our students!
