Head Shot and Cap and Gown Photo Day September 6th
Hello all from your 2020 PAPA Yearbook staff,
We are excited to announce Head Shot and Cap and Gown photo day is September 6th, 2019. Please don’t make any appointments for that day. It is important that you are in school on the 6th. We have a special setup with MJ Thomas Photography to create Head Shot photos rather than the traditional school photo. It is a one day event and they can’t recreate it for our group shots later in the fall.
If you are new to PAPA, we are glad to meet you. PAPA has a long history of working with local casting directors to get our students into films shot in New Mexico and around (StarGirl, Breaking Bad, Disney’s Lemon Aid Mouth, The Maze Runner, Terminator Salvation, T@gged, etc.) A big step forward for us as a school is the head shot for each of our students.
“A head shot or headshot is a specific type of portrait (usually a photograph) that realistically demonstrates a person’s appearance for branding or casting. Many head shots are promotional pictures of actors, models, authors. Headshots could be a portrait of a face or full body with a background that clearly illustrate the personality inside the person photographed.”-https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Head_shot
When we have a casting session at PAPA or send our students out to a casting call, we want them to be as prepared as possible. The headshot is one way we do that.
This means that you won’t have a choice of background. In general we use a muted gray with a foot light to emphasis the eyes. We also have our Film Makeup and Wardrobe crew on hand for touch ups on the shoot day.
We use the headshots in our school yearbook as the yearbook student photos as well.
Please come to school that day Camera Ready. This is a film term that means you are ready to go in front of the camera. Make sure you get plenty of sleep the night before and drink lots of water (maybe even the week before). Don’t wear t-shirts with logos on them. Don’t wear white. Don’t wear a hat or you will have hat head. Don’t wear a busy pattern.
Jewel tones, solid colors, light powder and/or concealer, and get a haircut the week before.
Will update this later this month and remind you.
Save the Date: Sept 6th, 2019, PAPA HeadShot Day (and Cap and Gown for Seniors)!
