Proposed 2012-13 School Calendar

The School Advisory Council has proposed a calendar for the 2012-13 school year. It basically follows the APS calendar with a few exceptions. Please send any calendar comments/suggestions you have to slavis@paparts.org. The calendar will be reviewed with possible action taken at the February 21^st Governing Council meeting. We appreciate your input!

Dear Honored parents, students and staff.

The Public Academy for Performing Arts is pleased to announce that our local Albuquerque Challenger Center has offered to host PAPA’s honor students as a reward, and as a valuable learning experience for their scholarly achievement records. This is a first time opportunity for PAPA and the Challenger Center. The faculty and staff of PAPA are very honored to receive this distinction.

Teachers and students will travel to the Challenge Center via bus and conduct computer generation flights into the future of Space travel and exploration. New Mexico has a long and epic history of Space Endeavors. Los Alamos Labs, Sandia Labs, Spaceport America, Holoman Research Facilities, White Sands Missile Range and Kirtland AFB employ thousands of New Mexicans in Space related positions. Our students have shown by their attention to academics and arts that they are blending talent and intelligence into the next generation of citizens.

High School and Middle School Students who earn 3rd quarter honor roll, have a 95% or better attendance rate (including tardies), and no discipline referrals will be eligible to participate on April 26, 2012. If we have more qualifying students than the Challenger Center can accommodate, we will draw names to fill the spots. So, work hard and be in school for your chance to attend this exciting opportunity!

Poetry Out Loud Competition Results

Thank you all for your support for the 2012 PAPA Poetry Out Loud competition! It was a successful event.
We had approximately 175 audience members, 30 competitors, and 5 middle school entertainers.

Our winners: Honorable Mention: Analisa Quezada
2nd place: Ashlee Goodloe
1st place: Jeremy Anderson

Thanks for all your help and thanks for coming! We are pre-selling DVDs of the event for $15, see Ms Beck.
if you’d like to order one. Thanks to Su Hudson and the PAPArazzi for filming and photographing the event.

Please join us on Sunday, February 12 @ 1pm at the New Mexico Museum of Art in Santa Fe for
the State Finals. This is a free event, as well.

The winner of the State Finals advances with a free trip to Washington, D.C., to
compete in the National competition.

Our lottery process has begun. Feel free to download a copy of the application from our website, www.paparts.org Here is the link:

You can also pick up an application and/or turn in the one you downloaded from the Administration Building at our school between 8:30am and 3:30pm M-F. Our school is located at 3000 Adams St NE.

Remember – if you have a student in grades 10-12 please make sure to bring along an unofficial transcript to go with the application.
