Today we honor Baseball Great, Frank Robinson.
Robinson was the FIRST African-America manager in Major League Baseball.  Before that, he was also player from 1956-1976, Robinson was the only one to win the MVP (Most Valuable Player) award in both the American and National Leagues.  He was also honored with the Rookie of the Year award, won baseball’s Triple Crown, was the American League Manager of the Year in 1989, and was inducted in the Baseball Hall of Fame his first year of eligibility.  In all, Robinson worked more than 60 years in baseball as a player, manager, executive vice president of baseball development, and senior advisor to the baseball commissioner.   While he dealt with racism and segregation during his career, Robinson saw each position as a step forward, a way to break barriers.  He once stated that being the first black manager, “…meant the door’s open.  But how long the door would stay open depended on basically the way I conducted myself and the success I would have.”  Yesterday, Robinson passed away from cancer at the age of 83.  You can read more about this baseball great at https://www.biography.com/people/frank-robinson-9460731
