Remember if you have a sibling that wants to attend PAPA they must turn in a Lottery Application before February 28, 2019. – Please note the Intent to Return form is not a lottery application.
Intent to Return to form:
February is Black History Month, a time to recognize and honor the Black men and women (and children) who’ve fought for a more equal and just society. It is also a time to reflect and continue working to make our communities and country stronger. We are proud of our diversity at PAPA and want to use this month to recognize African American individuals from the past and today that you may not have heard of, but have promoted equality and made a difference for all in our communities. The first historical individual was a 15 year old named Claudette Colvin. This is her story:
Nine months before Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat to a white passenger on a bus in Montgomery, Alabama, a then 15-year-old Claudette Colvin did the same. On March 2, 1055, Colvin was taking the bus home from high school when the driver ordered her to give up her seat, according to NPR, Colvin refused, saying she paid her fare and it was her constitutional right, but was then arrested by two police officers. Colvin later became the main witness in the federal lawsuit Browder v. Gayle, which ended segregation on public transportation in Alabama.
Friday, February 8th (yes this Friday) is the end of the Progress Report grading period.
Grades are due by 8:00 am on Monday and Progress Reports will be sent home with students Monday afternoon.
